Women raising their voices in trilling cries of joy at weddings

Q 10: What is the ruling on women raising their voices in trilling cries of joy at weddings? Is it prohibited because the voice of woman is `Awrah (something that should be hidden in public) or because it is prohibited in principle?

A: Loud cries of joy are prohibited in principle, although women's voice is not `Awrah in general. It becomes so when a woman speaks softly, as this may entice men and move their desire towards her. (Part No. 17; Page No. 202) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
