Women shortening their hair

585

Q: My wife and sister have long hair. Their long hair has become an inconvenience as it reaches down to their waists. Because they suffer great discomfort, is it permissible for them to shorten it, or is it unlawful for them to do so? I look forward to your reply and hope you will provide me with a Fatwa (legal opinion issued by a qualified Muslim scholar). May Allah preserve you.

A: If the case is as you have mentioned, there is no harm in their shaving their hair in order to relieve any difficulties; however, it is not permissible for them to shave their heads. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
