And miscarriage takes place in

Q: I am married man and Allah has blessed my wife and me with six children - all praise is due to Allah. After this my wife became pregnant five times and each time she miscarried in the second or third month of her pregnancy in the hospital. Each time she started bleeding, I took her to the hospital and they gave her an anesthetic to perform a Dilation and Curettage operation (D and C). However, I do not know what they did with the fetuses. Is it obligatory that they should be buried or not? Please tell me what I should do in regard to burying them. Is it obligatory on me to give them names and offer an ‘Aqiqah (sacrifice for a newborn) for them or not?

A: If a fetus dies before the fourth month, it should neither be washed, nor have the Funeral Prayer performed for it, nor be given a name. Also, you do not have to offer an ‘Aqiqah, because the soul had not been breathed into it yet.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
