Q:
Allah forbade Zina (sexual intercourse outside marriage) and abandoning Salah (Prayer). Which of them is more grievous?
A:
Abandoning Salah is a graver and more serious sin than Zina. Abandoning Salah is major Kufr (disbelief that takes the Muslim out of Islam), whereas Zina is one of the major sins, which does not render the person who commits it a Kafir (disbeliever) as long as he does not deem it lawful. Nevertheless, Had (ordained punishment for violating Allah’s Law) must be carried out on the perpetrator if his offence is reported to the ruler.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
