Q 3: Is it permissible to offer Salah behind an Imam paid by the government?

A: Yes, it is permissible to offer Salah behind him as he carries out a general duty for Muslims. He has a right to Bayt-ul-Mal (Muslim treasury) which pays him like the rest of the people who carry out their duties such as caliphs, governors, judges, teachers, etc. This is the way things have been happening since the lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him) until today. It is permissible for the Imams and Mu'adhins (caller to Prayer) to get paid from the Awqaf revenues in return for their jobs.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
