Q: Some commercial stores and individual properties are exposed to the danger of being burglarized by unscrupulous people. (Part No. 7; Page No. 13) Thieves seize the time when security patrol officers stop to perform Salah (Prayer) in congregation in the Masjid (mosque). Respected Shaykh, you know that we are charged with the duty of safeguarding the property of citizens and residents and the country security. Therefore, we ask Your Eminence: Is it permissible for officers entrusted with patrolling squares to delay the performance of Salah till those praying come out of the Masjid (immediately without any significant delay)? What is the opinion of Your Eminence on this issue? May Allah safeguard you and help you to serve Islam and Muslims!

A: The basic rule in this regard is that Salah in congregation in the Masjids is obligatory for adult males and may not be delayed except for a Shar`y (Islamic legal) excuse. Therefore, the status of officers whose work is to patrol squares to maintain order and to protect people's properties against any outrage is a valid excuse to not attend Salah in congregation. Thus stated, they may offer Salah at their posts so long as this excuse exists, bearing in mind that necessity is assessed according to its extent. However, I would like to praise your concern in this respect. I ask Allah to make you keener to comprehend the religion and safeguard Muslim interests.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
