Rulings and etiquette related to Adhan

Q: What are the rulings related to the Adhan (call to Prayer)? Is it permissible for any person to pronounce the Adhan?

A: The Adhan is a form of `Ibadah (worship) and a means to draw closer to Allah (Exalted be He). It is one of the best acts of `Ibadah because of its great reward. It was authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said: If the people know (the reward) for (pronouncing) the Adhan and for (standing in) the first row (in congregational Salah) and find no other way to get that (reward) except by drawing lots, they would draw lots. It is permissible for any person to pronounce the Adhan as long as he is Muslim, sane, trustworthy, and honest. It is also desirable to be Tahir (ritually pure) and loud-voiced.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
